Pleurotus djamor, also known as Pink Oyster Mushrooms, thrive in tropical climates in the wild, naturally growing on hardwood. They can withstand temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius but flourish in the 16-25℃ range, making them perfect for growing in the warmer months.
While they can be cultivated year-round in centrally heated homes, expect slightly longer fruiting times during winter. Simply mist them twice daily once growth begins.
These mushrooms, when exposed to natural sunlight (even after harvesting), absorb and store healthy amounts of Vitamin D2, providing a rare, non-animal source of this essential nutrient.

Pleurotus djamor is found in tropical regions worldwide, including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, New Guinea, Borneo, Brazil, and Mexico. It thrives on subtropical hardwoods such as palm, rubber trees, bamboo, and even cactus.In Borneo, particularly in Sabah, Pleurotus djamor is one of the most widely foraged mushrooms. Similarly, in Mexico, it is well-known and commonly foraged. In Northern Jalisco, foragers cut fallen branches and trunks of the ochote tree (Ipomea intrapilosa) during winter and early spring. They allow the wood to dry to encourage the growth of Pleurotus djamor and other mushrooms during the rainy season.
Cooking Tips: Perfect for Asian stir-fries or as a crispy vegan bacon alternative, these mushrooms offer an umami-packed flavour and a satisfying meaty texture. Harvest them at their bright pink peak during the middle of their growth cycle for the best culinary experience.
