The Phoenix Oyster (Pleurotus pulmonarius) mushroom has delicate, cream coloured caps with the wavy edge characteristic of its species. Unlike the majority of oyster mushrooms, phoenix oysters have the special ability to grow on conifers - meaning they are perfect for recycling your Christmas tree into tasty mushrooms!
Widely distributed across temperate and subtropical forests worldwide, this particular strain was isolated in Scotland.
This kit contains:
- 40 wooden dowels inoculated with phoenix oyster (Pleurotus pulmonarius) mycelium- 25g of biodegradable, UK-grown rapeseedwax to seal the log once the dowels have been inserted

Cooking Tips: With their subtle earthy flavours and delicate texture, the caps of these mushrooms are great in Asian-style soups or simply sautéed with garlic on toast. When chopped, the stems from the large mushrooms make a great vegan substitute for mince in anything from spaghetti bolognese to homemade sausages.
Grow Oyster Mushrooms On Your Christmas Tree
For drillling into logs, we recommend using a 8.5mm brad point drill bit which we sell here. This is specially designed for drilling into wood and will create the perfect sized holes for the plug spawn.
You can also add on a sponge applicator for sealing the plugs with wax.This item is available for Christmas Pre-Order only.

Storage Instructions:
Keep plug spawn in its unopened bag until use. For short-term storage, keep in a dark cupboard at room temperature for up to 1 month. For long-term storage, refrigerate unopened for up to 6 months. Do not freeze and keep away from heat sources.
